Cleopatra - The Egyptian Queen Who Dimensioned Make Up

According to a study of some researchers, eyeliner was applied 4,000 years ago in by Egyptians to ward off infections. The “smokey eye” look was invented by Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, the most desirable woman in history. It was when Cleopatra grabbed the title of Queen, all the egyptian women had at their disposal a whole range of cosmetics, all of which were either made from minerals, rocks or plants.

Due to hot drying climate and sand waves, Egyptian people applied a substance that softened the skin as well as benefitted it. Egyptian make up not only enhanced its features but also ward of unnecessary evils (basically eye infections and poor eyesight). The lead salt substance in the makeup protected against eye diseases. In fact at a minute level, salts produce nitric oxide, which boosts their immune system to fight of bacterias. It took a month to concoct Cleopatra’s make up.

Eyes
Cleopatra used dark shades of blue and green too decorate her eyes. Kohl was used to outline eyes, by creating a mesmerised almond eye look. At that time, kohl was made up of burned almonds, lead, soot, copper and other ingredients including galena.

Lips
She used to use a rogue stain on her lips and cheeks. According to some sources, Cleopatra’s lipstick was made of ants eggs and carmine beetles, which when crushed together gave a red colour.

Hairs And Nails
Henna was used to colour her hairs and nails for its cleansing and cooling properties. Its usage was considered aa a rich status symbol.

How To Do Cleopatra Like Eye Make Up?
  • Step 1. Clean the area around the eyes with a nice cleanser and remove any old make up.
  • Step 2. Finely rub a good quality primer on each eyelid in and up to the the brow bone area.
  • Step 3. Apply a matte dark coloured eyeshadow with an angled brush and softly brush a darker shades on your eyebrows.
  • Step 4. Start from the inner corner of your eye and apply a black liquid eyeliner on your lash line perfectly. Make a thin line all the way to your outer edge. Repeat this on your lower lash line.
  • Step 5. Carefully elongate this black line about half an inch more towards the outer edge of your eye.Taper it gradually, so that it looks like sideways triangle. Curl up the tip of the triangle slightly in the upward direction.
  • Step 6. Sizzle some blue or aqua liquid eyeshadow on your both eyelids. Cover the entire eyelid area. Apply some more shadow on to your brow bone.
  • Step 7. Apply double coat of dark black mascara to your upper as well as  lower eyelashes.

I guess, Cleopatra stands as a perfect epitome of beauty that used her cosmetics not simply for beauty’s sake, but for certain benefits that female beauty might also bring. With witty Julius Caesar as her lover and, later, powerful Marc Antony as her husband, Cleopatra controlled Egypt’s power along with that of Rome. In today's world, a woman has multiple choices in cosmetics to choose from, with varied colours and uses. One of my favourite online websites that gives cosmetics of widest brands and amazing prices is Purplle from where one can buy the products and save money with free Purplle discount coupons.
